tall dark handsome man on the elevator - w4m - September 21 Wednesday after lunch, 2nd floor of King’s Court building 1 Makati

Adventures of Girl 1 and Girl 2

We locked eyes for a moment. I was pulling my best friend away from the elevator doors— you’re too close, I said, listen, my Mama told me not to stand too close I was on the elevator doors, because there will be people coming out, and besides— but then I stopped because the elevator doors opened and you stood there in your neatly-dressed-tall-dark-handsome-Middle-Eastern-European-ness. Mid to late twenties? And you looked up and maybe I was staring awkwardly for a split-second. You walked away in a hurry.

My best friend berated me for pulling her away from the elevator. You see, she said, if I had been standing too close to the elevator doors, he would’ve bumped into me! I knew she was right, but, in my defense, I’m wary of elevators because my Mama once told me about someone who entered the elevator in a hurry— the elevator doors opened and this person walked right in— unfortunately there was no elevator car there and this person fell down the shaft and died. I was just protecting my best friend from a similar fate, but my precaution cost us a connection!

So many questions. Where were you headed on the second floor of King’s Court? Are you employed there, or were you just there for a one-time meeting? Will we see you again on a Wednesday afternoon? Do you like eating at the Pancake House on the ground floor? Join me and Girl 2 for late lunch there sometime. Since we might actually see you again, here’s a description of us: I’m a chinita long-straight-haired girl who’s always in a skirt or a dress, and I’m taller than my tanned long-curly-haired best friend. We’ve got big smiles (Girl 2’s smile is bigger than mine) and loud laughter.

Love,

Girl 1 whose best friend is Girl 2
